Motorola Advanced Research Labs
In the summer of 1996, I was a research intern at Motorola Advanced Research Labs in Austin, TX. Most of my summer was spent developing a machine learning algorithm to analyze defects in the chip fabrication process for patterns. If a pattern is was detected, it could be matched with an action on the fabrication line to improve quality.
My internship with Motorola was enlightening and educational. I was surprised by how uptight Motorola was about everything from drug tests to wearing shorts. (I once got scolded by a receptionist who said, “We don’t wear shorts to work at Motorola.”) Fortunately I had a good manager who protected me from the craziness. (Thanks Arun.)
